UNCCD COP17 · Ulaanbaatar
The world's desertification summit
17–28 August 2026
Mongolia hosts the UN Convention to Combat Desertification's 17th Conference of the Parties for the first time. Delegations from 196 member states convene in Ulaanbaatar.
What is COP17?
The biennial gathering where governments, international agencies, and civil-society groups align on solutions, financing, and partnerships to combat desertification, land degradation, and drought. COP17 is the first ever held in Asia.
Why Mongolia?
Mongolia is one of the most visible front lines of land degradation: 77% of its territory degraded, $2.1B in annual losses. Hosting COP17 puts Mongolia's solutions on the global stage.
